Otis Redding was wrong. Look like nothing's gonna change Everything still remains the same I can't do what ten people tell me to do So I guess I'll remain the same I love to sit in my kitchen and look out the window. Sometimes, the Filipina woman who lives behind me and I exchange waves when we're both hanging out our laundry at the same time. Usually, though, I just enjoy the view across the rooftops. Yesterday morning, I woke up to the sound of a chainsaw. Two men were cutting down the tree I always thought was called a Monkey-pod. (I am wrong, but what could it be?). The woman brought them coffee, juice, water, tea... "Paul Bunyon" as I came to think of him, paused to sharpen his chainsaw between each section that he brought down. Everything changes. Everything. This was the view from my kitchen window. It is the tree on the far right that got the ax.Paul Bunyon sharpens his ax The older man was sharing some pointers with the younger guy who was all earsMy neighbor kept the beverages flowing I'm beyond your peripheral vision So you might want to turn your head Cause someday you might find you're starving And eating all of the words you saidTags: a chainsaw, impermanence, otis redding, paul bunyon Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: Ani DiFranco: 32 Flavors
