I'm heading off to the university to meet Elisheva, and yes, I know that the student strike is still on. I woke up in a klezmer frame of mind. Is this left over from some former גילגול gilgul or does it foreshadow great things to come? While they are not a klezmer group, per se, one of my favorite Portland groups is 3LegTorso. ( Check them out! ) One of my classmates in music school was Gabe Leavitt who played cello with the group when it was a trio. (He appears on their first two cds, 3 leg Torso and Astor in Paris). They've now evolved into a quintet: violin/trumpet, accordion, percussion, percussion and stand up bass. As a quintet, they've also put out an innovative cd with NPR's David Greenberger. To the train! PS Yes, I also know that this is the sefira period when it is traditional not to listen to music (with the exception of a cappella music). I've already gone through my entire collection of a cappella, so it is time to reevaluate this business. We are in a period of semi-mourning. Even when I was in full-blown mourning following the death of my parents, I not only listened to music, it was the thread that kept me connected to life.
